Do drop by to check out our specially crafted chalkboards =) Wood is one of the rare materials that become more charming with age. Indeed, old-wood is very popular, and remains one of the most sought after elements seen in designs of hotel lobbies, shop fronts, and living rooms around the world. Having said that, however, one of the biggest obstacles to using old wood is that it is not particularly affordable. So what are some of the alternatives to using actual old wood? At Chalk'let, we achieve the effect of old wood on new wood by "burning" the new wood. This burning technique applies heat on wooden surfaces to create charred patches, giving the look and feel of old wood. When paired with chalkboards, our burnt wood frames help create a rustic finish which can match any design theme. Contact us to enquire about customising burnt wood frames on our chalkboards today! Liquid chalk pens have become increasingly popular due to their attractive bright colours and also because they are "dustless" compared to traditional chalk.
However, is liquid chalk really a good substitute for traditional chalk when used on chalkboards? Many liquid chalk pens are water-based, and claim to be erasable. But this is mostly true only when they are used on certain non-porous surfaces like glass or on this chalkboard surface. Instead, when such liquid chalk pens are used on traditional chalkboard surfaces, they tend to be very difficult to erase and often leave permanent marks. Indeed, the internet is replete with reviews and complaints of unsuspecting consumes who used liquid chalk pens on their chalkboards thinking that the writings were erasable, and then had trouble erasing those writings (see this and this). So, always be very careful when using liquid chalk pens on your chalkboards. Use them sparingly, or only if you do not intend to erase them later =) We've updated our website with a whole range of new chalkboard items. "Even in this age of computers and high-tech teaching aids, the humble blackboard, or its evolutionary incarnation, the whiteboard, still remains a mainstay in classrooms and boardrooms around the world, and this fact is not likely to change anytime soon. Due to its simplicity, effectiveness, economy and ease of use, technology will have to go a long way to make the blackboard obsolete." |
